About
Sally Braden
Therapy with me is more than a conversation—it’s an experience. I believe my clients are the experts in their own lives, and I see therapy as a collaborative process—listening, understanding, and working together to create meaningful change. My approach looks at the whole person, both mind and body, and blends with the science of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy— a well-researched, practical approach helping you understand and shift the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I draw from evidence-based approaches while also recognizing the benefits of movement, fresh air, and connection with animals and nature. These elements can create space to view yourself and your challenges with greater clarity.
I became a therapist because I believe in the strength people carry within themselves—and sometimes just need the right space to find it. Whether we’re addressing unhelpful thought patterns, navigating life transitions, or managing anxiety and stress, I provide a safe and supportive environment. Some sessions take place in my private office, while others happen outdoors at Hickory Top Farm—an 80-acre horse farm with open pastures and quiet trails. In this setting, therapy often feels more spacious and grounded, helping clients process emotions, release tension, and approach challenges from a new perspective.
For more than 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of helping people navigate life’s challenges, supported by the education and clinical training that guide my practice. I’m a Licensed Independent Social Worker of Clinical Practice (LISW-CP) in South Carolina, with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Wofford College and a Master of Social Work with a Certification in Animal-Assisted Social Work from the University of Denver. My career has taken me through inpatient psychiatry, residential treatment, community-based mental health, and private practice, experiences that continue to shape the way I support clients today.
In addition to my private practice, I serve as Director of Equine-Assisted Therapy at Hickory Top Farm, where I help lead workshops and groups that bring people together for growth, healing, and connection with animals and nature. I’ve also shared my passion for the human–animal bond as a contributing author and editor of Transforming Trauma: Resilience & Healing Through Our Connections With Animals (Purdue University Press, 2019) and enjoy serving as a Board member for the South Carolina Society for Clinical Social Work. Above all, my focus is on creating safe, supportive spaces—whether in the therapy office or out in the quiet rhythm of the farm—where people can process challenges and move toward resilience.
I’m a Columbia, SC native, married with two children, and we share our home with a spirited two-year-old Australian Shepherd named Greta. Family is at the center of my life, and I love spending time with them and my closest loved ones. Outside of work, I’m happiest when I’m outdoors—whether walking, working in the yard, or simply finding any reason to be in the fresh air. I also enjoy traveling to new places, enjoying good food, and creating experiences that bring people I care about together.
I offer in-person sessions both at my Millwood Avenue office and at our Outdoor Mental Health Clinic at Hickory Top Farm, as well as virtual sessions for your convenience. My practice is private pay only, with session fees ranging from $150 to $175. Upon request, I can provide a “superbill” for you to submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Please be aware that insurance reimbursement requires a formal mental health diagnosis.
One of the most important steps in starting therapy is finding the right fit. I’m happy to offer a brief phone consultation so we can discuss your needs before scheduling a session.
